Cliff Walk at Pourville, painted by Claude Monet in 1882 depicts two women in white summer dresses pausing on a wind-swept clifftop above the Norman fishing village of Pourville, their parasols and bonnets set against a bright expanse of sea and sky. Fishing boats dot the water far below, quietly contrasting the leisure of the strolling figures with the working life of the coast. The canvas is one of nearly a hundred views Monet produced along the Normandy coast that year and today hangs in the Art Institute of Chicago.
