Children's Afternoon at Wargemont, 1884 by Pierre-Auguste Renoir
Choose options
Children's Afternoon at Wargemont, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1884 depicts the three Berard daughters at their family's Normandy chateau, one absorbed in a picture book on a striped chaise, another standing in a sailor dress cradling a porcelain doll, and the eldest seated beside her threading a needle, rendered with the crisp, linear precision that marks Renoir's mid-1880s classicizing period. The painting was made during Renoir's long friendship with the banker Paul Berard, whose family estate at Wargemont in Normandy provided the setting for several of Renoir's finest portrait compositions of the decade.
Artist: Pierre-Auguste Renoir (French, 1841-1919). Date: 1884.
Children's Afternoon at Wargemont, 1884 by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Impressionist Figure Canvas Print.
A note on this reproduction: this print renders in warmer, more golden tones, with a richer peach cast to the mother's dress and skin and a warmer overall palette. A cooler, paler reproduction of this same painting is also available in our collection.
