A woman in a red dress and parasol strolls along the riverside quay past a cluster of moored rowboats, rendered in the rapid, vibrating brushwork and Pointillist-inflected color Van Gogh absorbed during his two years in Paris. The painting captures his growing fascination with the modern industrial landscape set against shimmering natural light on the water.
