The Bridge in Monet’s Garden, painted by Claude Monet in 1895-96 depicts the pale wooden footbridge arching over the lily pond at Giverny, its white rails mirrored in the still water below a bank crowded with irises and wildflowers. Painted only two years after Monet built the bridge in 1893, the canvas marks the opening chapter of the Japanese Bridge series, rendered in the soft lavender and green harmonies that would soon give way to his all-consuming water lily paintings.
Artist: Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926). Date: 1895-96.
