Bridge at Argenteuil, painted by Claude Monet in 1874 depicts the modern road bridge spanning the Seine at Argenteuil, rebuilt after its destruction in the Franco-Prussian War and one of the motifs Monet painted repeatedly during his years at the riverside town. The composition sets moored sailboats and their rippling reflections against the geometric mass of the bridge and the play of orange and blue complementary light across masts and rooftops. Painted in the founding year of the Impressionist movement, the canvas now belongs to the Musée d'Orsay in Paris.
