Bowl of Figs and Apples, painted by Pierre-Auguste Renoir in 1916 presents a rich still life of ripe figs and apples gathered around a blue-and-white lidded tureen, rendered in the warm, luminous palette and soft, confident brushwork of his final years at Cagnes-sur-Mer. Held today in the Barnes Foundation, the painting is a superb late example of Renoir's lifelong devotion to still life, the fruit and porcelain rendered with the same sensuous warmth he brought to his figure paintings.
