Boating on the River Epte, painted by Claude Monet in 1890 depicts two women in white dresses drifting in a slender red canoe along a quiet stretch of the River Epte near Giverny, believed to be Suzanne and Blanche Hoschédé, daughters of Monet's companion and future second wife Alice. The rippling dark green water, overhanging foliage, and warm reflected light are rendered in the loose, textured brushwork typical of Monet's mature Giverny-period Impressionism. The canvas belongs to a series the artist worked on between 1887 and 1890 chronicling leisurely boating scenes along the river bordering his property.

Artist: Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926). Date: 1890.
