Choose options
Painted in 1874, Claude Monet's The Studio Boat (Le Bateau-atelier) depicts the celebrated floating studio that Monet had constructed for himself at Argenteuil — a small craft fitted with a cabin from which he could paint directly on the water, observing the Seine at every angle and under every condition of light. The boat was inspired by the example of Charles-François Daubigny, and Monet used it throughout his Argenteuil years. The painting belongs to the foundational year of the Impressionist movement and is a remarkable document of the painter's working method. A historically significant and biographically distinctive work for any interior drawn to the masterworks of French Impressionism.
