Bathers at La Grenouillère, 1869 – Claude Monet Wall Art | Foundational Impressionist Canvas Print
Choose options
Painted in 1869, Claude Monet's Bathers at La Grenouillère is one of the foundational works of Impressionism, capturing the popular Seine-side bathing and boating establishment near Bougival where Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir worked side-by-side in the summer of 1869. The two painters set up their easels at the same motif and produced parallel canvases that, viewed together, document the precise moment at which the new manner of working from observation was being invented. The broken brushwork on the water and the brilliant unmodelled colour announce the principles that would define the movement. A historically significant and supremely important work for any interior drawn to the origins of French Impressionism.
