The Bridge at Argenteuil, painted by Claude Monet in 1874, depicts the road bridge crossing the Seine at Argenteuil, its pale arches spanning brilliant blue water crowded with brightly coloured sailboats moored along the bank. Painted the same year as the first Impressionist exhibition, and now held in the Musée d’Orsay, it stands among the most widely reproduced and canonical statements of Monet’s mature Impressionist style, prized for its shimmering play of complementary orange and blue light.
