Red Boats, Argenteuil (Les Bateaux Rouges, Argenteuil), painted by Claude Monet in 1875 shows a row of moored sailing boats with vivid vermilion hulls resting on the green, algae-streaked waters of the Argenteuil basin northwest of Paris. It dates from Monet’s Argenteuil years of 1871 to 1878, when he, Renoir, and Manet often worked side by side along the same stretch of the Seine, capturing its boats and regattas in the fresh, spontaneous manner that came to define Impressionism.
Artist: Claude Monet (French, 1840-1926). Date: 1875.
