Interior of a Restaurant, painted by Vincent van Gogh in the summer of 1887, depicts a Parisian dining room set with white-clothed tables, bentwood chairs, and vibrant bouquets, rendered almost entirely in a personal stippled variant of pointillism. Van Gogh applies contrasting dabs of red and green in the walls and yellow and violet in the floor, translating the scientific color theory of Seurat and Signac into his own restless, textured touch. The painting stands as one of his most technically experimental Paris canvases, made not long before he departed for Arles and the breakthrough of his mature style.
