Executada rapidamente no local em aquarela e guache, a obra mostra Van Gogh testando sua habilidade crescente em capturar atmosfera e luz, uma abordagem moldada pelos pintores naturalistas da Escola de Haia que ele estudou e admirou durante este período inicial. Está entre as obras que marcam sua transição de desenhista para pintor da paisagem holandesa.
