Iris, peint par Vincent van Gogh en 1890, rassemble un bouquet libre d’iris bleu-violet dans un pichet en grès crème posé sur une table verte, rendu par les coups de pinceau assurés et tourbillonnants de ses dernières semaines à l’asile de Saint-Paul-de-Mausole. Van Gogh a achevé ce bouquet en mai 1890, juste avant de quitter Saint-Rémy-de-Provence pour Auvers-sur-Oise, cherchant ce qu’il appelait un effet « harmonieux et doux » sur un fond à l’origine rose, mais qui a depuis pâli pour devenir crème clair en raison de l’utilisation d’un pigment rouge fugace. Le tableau fait partie de la collection du Metropolitan Museum of Art de New York depuis 1958.
