Une Paysanne à genoux devant une chaumière, vers 1883, par Vincent van Gogh montre une paysanne accroupie à côté d’un panier devant une chaumière délavée au toit de chaume, dans un paysage aux couleurs ternes et couvert d’un ciel gris, dominé par des tons terreux sombres. Van Gogh (néerlandais, 1853-1890) a réalisé cette œuvre lors de son séjour en Drenthe, où il recherchait des travailleurs et des habitants de chaumières afin de les étudier directement sur le vif.
